Personal Insight questions
Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome and educational barrier you have faced.
- When I first entered high school I had the mentality of having fun and not stressing because I would have everything done. My reality was falling behind because I didn’t have interest in school. It’s crazy how fast my mind changed opinions about schools. I was never ranked as one of the top students and the group I hanged out with was always in the top 10 so it was inevitable for my confidence to go down. It was until my junior year when I started stepping up my academic performance. I got level 4’s for almost every class; only three classes had 3’s. However, I didn’t do this on my own will. My English teacher of sophomore year, Mr. Garza gave me an academic achievement because I finished freshman and sophomore English at the same time. This really influenced me to go accept challenges and so far I have. The thing is I’m not used to a lot pressure and I don’t handle stress that well but I’m not a quitter. My family and friends have been there for me and that has kept me from not stopping.
- Having a low GPA is something I don’t like to admit to anyone because many people have huge expectations of me like having a high GPA. I found out of my GPA at the end of my sophomore year when I received my progress report home. I thought that there must have been a mistake because I was absolutely sure that I passed all my classes. I remember crying and my mother telling me that it was okay, but that only made it worst. Worst because I took it as if she didn’t care and just wanted me quiet. I eventually got over it when junior year approached. I was scared to pick AP classes because I thought I was incapable of completing them, much less, passing the test. But the only thing that hold me back was having low decimal number as my GPA. I never took into consideration my commitment to my learning. I let the opportunities go and now the best I could do is go for level 4’s but that is still hard.
- In my junior year I got enrolled in Physiology. And hallelujah I got high scores in there because I loved that class, so doing extra work was never a bother. I strived to get 4’s on both semesters and I did. That year my GPA raise quite a bit compared to people who just raise their GPA by .1 or .2 . The class has really given me the opportunity to look beyond my own expectations. I never thought I could memorize so many body parts let alone a whole system process. My future college plans include majoring in kinesiology to become a physical therapist or something related to that career.
- I’ve been part of the Future Business Leaders of America club since my freshman year. I never thought I would be an officer in the club. I have brought so many ideas to this club that for the next officer taking my position will have a difficult time keeping things organized. I have developed a website in order for members to have easier access to information about the club and upcoming events I’ve also re-introduced the idea of creating a rewards card for the student store. As the Public Relation officer it is my duty to recruit many members to expand our chapter.
